Hi there! My name is Elaine Earl. I am an artist, poet, and
a mother of two. I was born in Texas in 1956. I have been an artist most of my life. I started drawing at age 3 and painting
by age 12. It was about the only thing I was really good at so I stuck with it. Art has always been a great source of comfort
and a huge self-esteem builder for me which was needed because I had very low self-esteem as a child. I suffered with
epilepsy and was told that I was brain damaged. I always felt different than the other kids. But art was an ice breaker.
It helped me relate to and communicate with other people. Often my art would open up a conversation with someone and help
me make friends because it was the one thing I could do that drew others to me and made them notice me. Art touched
my life in a profound way so I tried to share it with as many people as possible over the years. Later I taught
art lessons to underpriveledged kids, hyperactive kids, and anyone who wanted to learn. I worked with battered wives helping
them build strength, courage and self-esteem using art as a way to communicate these values. Art has always
been a wonderful outlet for me when the pressures of life seemed to crowd in. Some people like to read a great book or watch
a movie, but art has always been my favorite escape. When I am creating art, I am creating my very own world, a world where
I make the decisions. I call the shots. Upon returning to the drudgery of reality, I see things with a fresh perspective and
a new sense of power. Sometimes we all just need to get away, relax and catch our breath for awhile. Art is a wonderful
way to do that.
My sister, Rose Earl, is also and artist. She has a whole different style than
mine. She loves to paint little cottages and country homes. Her art has an innocent, childlike quality. She did'nt begin
painting until she was over the age of 40. We were all amazed with her talent so we encouraged her to continue painting.
